What's the difference?

[Author's note: The Flyers are gearing up for the Florida Kittens...err, Panthers. While they are on the road, my lack of cable and Center Ice Online will curtail personal reviews of the games.]

It's something I've been asked many times. I'm confronted by it when I read hockey blogs, be they about the Flyers or another team. It's probably most noticeable when I attend games.

I'm talking about the shocking difference between female and male hockey fans. Barring the immediate chromosomal differences, and excluding all puck-, rink- and dust-bunnies, I think it boils down to attitude.

So, uh, what's that mean?

Here's what I see on most guys' hockey blogs: B****ing, griping and moaning about freakin' stats. RFA/UFA hits to the CAP-this. PIMs, GAAs, and +/- ratings-that. Here a factoid, there a factoid...

In short, arm-chair GMing and sounding way too pretentious about it.

ENOUGH! Would you guys just sit back and watch the game?

I personally prefer to steer clear of stats because I dislike numbers...unless they're streaks. I'm more interested in the atmosphere of the game, the sights and sounds.

In regards to attending games, I'm deferring to my friend Teka's post on the matter. She's nailed it.

In the end, here's what's most important to me: I watched two teams playing hockey and had a d*** fine time doing it.

Umm...exuse me Nadine. I take personal offense to that. My blog is just as much about butts, pop culture, and fart jokes as it is about hockey. Much like life....

Ryan: Hence my qualifier "most."

You, Nadine, are a master of the English language...

Ryan: Not hardly! *smile* And I actually enjoy reading yours, even when I don't agree with you 100% precisely because you do more than "statbits!"

(I've been delinquent in adding a link to your blog, but I promise to get it done tonight.)

Woo Hoo! I made it to the big time! Side note...How great is it that the Sat game got moved to 4? Another side note - why does Ryan Smyth cry so much and is it attractive?

It is not great that the game got moved to 4! I have to work until 4 and will now be missing part of the first period...grrrrr!

Oh, wait...you weren't talking to me...

Kristin: Dude, it's my blog, answer any question you want!

Ryan: Well, since my Tribe is no longer in contention, I don't care. (But, hey, would it be a Cleveland team if they got in and won? No...we'd ask the body snatchers to return the real guys.)

And about Ryan Smyth and the crying thing, I got nothing. (It's common knowledge that he didn't want to leave the Oilers in the first place, so they must be tears of joy for the reprieve from those laid-back Colorado ski-bums.)

One better: Why does Edmonton feel the need to break both Smith/Smyth into tears on their first trip back?

Edmonton is a very emotional place. It all started with Gretzky crying at his press conference when he got traded....

I posted one thing (a very opinionated, heartfelt post) on Armchair and all these guys totally crapped all over it. I'll stick with my blog where I refuse to do much stats analysis.

KMS2: Yeah, I don't even bother with those guys. It's like choosing to smack your head against a brick wall. :)

(Dear Ryan, however, keeps me in stitches!)

I'll really only throw stats in when (re-)introducing a player to the loyal fans, but that's about it.
